You know how we like to try everything we can to help Sam, and you know that most of it isn't covered by insurance.
And Tim works 25 hours a day but that only goes so far.
So last weekend, in Baltimore, Chrissy held a car wash to raise money for Sam. And would you believe that she raised
nearly $1,500 for Sam? Unbelievable. Things like that are truly humbling.
And unless you regularly read Sam's
guestbook you're wondering who Chrissy is. Chrissy is Ed's daughter, which makes her Sarah's stepdaughter. Sarah (known
as "Vvvvvv" to Ben for some reason) and I have been friends since sixth grade. Chrissy is 21 (I think - sorry
if I'm wrong on that, Chrissy!) and has just been taken with Sam (even though she's never met him) and overwhelmed with an
urge to help him - and help us help him. So the car wash idea got her, and it happened a thousand miles away from here. And
it was an overwhelming success and Chrissy was absolutely astonished at the fact that people cared so much about a little
guy they will never meet. I know the feeling. I happen to know a young woman with her own busy
life and family who cares so much about her stepmother's best friend's son that she washed cars all day for him!
Can you imagine that?
Humbling, and touching, and just astonishing how these things go. The
ABR therapy will cost about $7,000 a year, not including traveling, so this will pay for our next visit. We're set to go to Montreal
in about 5 weeks.
Okay. Time to put some boys to bed. Tomorrow I'll write about what I did to Sam this week.
