Welcome to the Bob Blog.  "Bob" is Sam's alter ego.  Before Sam was born, Ben decided his name should be Bob.  (We should have known better than to ask, right?) And it stuck.   As Sam gets better and better, Ben calls him "Bob" a little less.  We think when Sam wakes up, "Bob" will disappear completely as far as Ben is concerned.  As for the rest of us, well, Bob's a hard habit to break...

I'll try and keep everybody updated on Sam's progress, my thoughts, our daily ups and downs.  It's tough sometimes, and I don't do as well as I'd like.

Remember me?
Yes, I was AWOL for a bit.  I don't really want to get into it, but I am picking myself up, brushing myself off, and deciding it's time to fill everybody in on what's going on in Sam's life.

The boy keeps on keeping on.  He has been doing so well lately.  Last week in physical therapy, he sat up - pretty much unsupported - for about 7 minutes!  THAT IS HUGE!!!  Until we started ABR, he could only do 30 seconds or so, so this keeps me going.  He is getting stronger and working hard.

And we started Hyperbaric Oxygen treatments again yesterday.  This time, for free!  Yes, free.  Can you believe it?  Last time, we had to hand over $5,000 before we could even start.  We are getting treatments through the Selama Grotto in St Petersburg.  It's a program set up to provide treatments for free to kids like Sam and anybody who needs it, really.  Right now, it's being run out of one family's home.  They actually let families in all day long for treatment - it's pretty much their life.  When people see the difference it can make, they get passionate about it.  They're working on opening a big center with 12 chambers - and they'd still treat people for free.

We, of course, are hoping for everything, but a lot of moms have told me that HBOT gave their kids their vision.  Here's a video of a pretty miraculous recovery from brain injury.  There are lots of miracles out there.

It's kind of funny how we found this place.  I heard about it when Sam was tiny, but the mom who knew the info never returned my calls.  Then several months ago, a friend gave me the info, but I didn't hear back and thought they were no longer operating.  So a couple of weeks ago, a mom from Bosnia who's in my ABR group asked me if I knew anything about it.  BOSNIA!  So she gave me the info and here we go.  I guess for some reason it wasn't the right time; who knows.

Gotta go. Just thought I should let everyone know I am still functioning, and Sam is doing well.  Thanks for caring about us.  And Ben's team won their first baseball game tonight!   Go Lugnuts!
